Birthday Trip to the Aquarium

For Aurelia’s birthday, we took her to the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. Aunt Tabitha came down for the weekend to hang out, too! We had a great time seeing all of the fishes and then letting her play outside in the splash park. The pictures below are in reverse chronological order. There are more pics on Aunt Tabitha’s camera to post later, as well, including some cake eating on Friday. They will be up soon, as well.

Looking up, up, up at the swim-over section of this river aquarium. The bear had front row seats to most of the fish. She wanted to make sure he didn’t miss anything. The dress is a new pillowcase-style dress that I finished up for her at about midnight before the trip. We went to some friends’ house for dinner, so sewing go pushed later and later in the day.

On Sunday, Daddy and Aurelia put together a new chair for Mommy to use at her sewing table (to replace the metal folding chair she was using). Aurie had watched Handy Manny that morning, and she was really stoked about “fixing” something. Marcus let her really get to use the tools, put in screws and such. She was a sweet helper. We get that from her sometimes. :)

Also, here is a secret belly picture that I didn’t realize Marcus had taken of me. I was making a curtain for the kitchen cabinet with the door missing. Once I get the other one up over the window, I’ll take some pictures. They have cute pleated ribbon on them and scalloped edges. I kind of fill all of the space here…

That reminds me… the other day, we were both trying to pass through a door, so I instinctively turn sideways against the doorframe to let Marcus pass me. We both got a good chuckle as he couldn’t squeeze through the space between my belly and the doorframe. I guess I’m bigger than I realize!

Flower girl

Aurelia was a flower girl for Uncle Paul and Aunt Jordan’s wedding last weekend. She did remarkably well walking down the aisle with her basket and standing up front for about half of the ceremony (even though she was squirming all around). Other favorites of the event were getting to dance around at the reception and playing with a big bunch of balloons. Since I had a little trouble matching the “pool” color of the wedding party with just a photo, I made her dress simple white eyelet and found some ribbon to match the color once I could borrow a piece from the tuxes. If only I had known the bridesmaids were wearing red shoes, she could really have matched perfectly :).

Enjoying some lasagna and strawberry shortcake at the rehearsal dinner (catered by Sarah’s mom). It was delicious!

Backyard Fun!

Marcus and I are getting ready to move to a house that we have started renting as of Friday. The house was pretty filthy, which allowed us to negotiate down on the rent, but also meant that we are spending a lot of time dusting, vacuuming, and scrubbing absolutely everything in the house. Meanwhile, Aurelia tries to entertain herself with a ball or trying to help, or whatever else comes along. Today, we found her sand buckets in the trunk of the car and let her play with them on the back patio while we were working inside. Aurelia is horribly afraid of the vacuum cleaner (big tears, running, panic breathing, the whole bit), and Daddy was running it a lot, so she was happy to be outside.

She wanted some water in her bucket like Mommy’s cleaning bucket, which she was not allowed to play in (yuck!), so I filled her bucket partway,and we gave her some cups and such to transfer water between buckets. After a while, she was making “blueberry water,” and having a grand time. We like the backyard already!

Here is a picture of Mommy, who is already e-nor-mous! Forgive the end-of-the-day strung out look. This was actually post-haircut with my lovely salon ponytail.

One of these days, I’ll get a nice photo of me taken.

Fun at Play and Haircut #3

Here are some pictures of Aurelia playing around Tanglewood. We are going to miss having a playground right across the parking lot when we move. On the other hand, not having to fight all the way inside about leaving all the toys on the ground (that others have left out) will be a relief!

She loves to climb. This is the ladder to the big slide.

“Balance beam” anywhere there is something narrow to walk on is also a favorite.

(Left to Right) 1. Climbing the tube slide – which she mastered quickly once she kicked off her shoes. 2. Riding a scooter that was lying around – that is what I mean about toys everywhere. Sometimes it takes us 10 minutes to get to our door from the car because of all of the toys she has to check out. 3. Bagel and cream cheese, the new favorite breakfast, especially eaten on the car on the way to school. She has been sleeping in past 8:00 a lot of days, so we end up going this route.

Ready for a haircut! Aurelia made friends all around the salon while we were waiting for her cut. She was so excited all day! She kept asking everyone else if they were there for a haircut and telling them for sure that she was having one. I think Nancy took off about 1/2 inch around the bottom and evened it up. The tangles in back just get sooooo bad when the ends get old and dry. Some of the older ladies who were there for the style appointments were so concerned that I was cutting of her baby curls. The next day, her hair was actually curlier! I’m not worried about losing the curls just yet.

PS. Mommy also got a cut, but no one but her has noticed – isn’t that always how it is…. Aurie was going a little nuts when I got my hair washed. She HATES having her hair washed, so she was afraid she was next – mwahahaha. This was after her cut, and she had also lost patience waiting. After she escaped out the front door the second time, I gave up on having my hair styled and left with a slightly fancier ponytail than I normally do. We will probably have separate appointments next time!!
