Halloweening and other fall stuff

We’ve been enjoying our little slice of Fall down here the past week. The temperatures have been pretty cold – down into the 40’s,even upper 30’s for a few days overnight. Daytime highs have been around 70 (80,today,though – ugh). It’s that time of year when those of us transplanted to Florida all wish to be up North – kind of like in the song “White Christmas,” only it should be “Red,Orange and Cool Fall” or something. :)

Aurelia got in on the fall festivities this year. She has watched “It’s the Great Pumpkin,Charlie Brown” a few dozen times, and she and Daddy carved two pumpkins for Halloween. Then, she helped Mommy to scrape out and cook some sugar pumpkins for pie, which we finally had last night. It turned out pretty well – really good for a first-go at an entirely from scratch pumpkin pie,I think. We’ve also had our fall garden planted for a while now. That is one cool thing about living down here – a fall garden. It doesn’t get very weedy,it produces some of our favorite veggies (broccoli, lettuce, kale, arugula, onions and carrots),and the dark green pops of color in the back yard are really pretty. We also harvested our first batch of compost from the tumbler to re-set the square foot garden. It was really slimy and fun to dump it all out, sift and then mix mix mix with shovels. Aurelia had a lot of fun with that part, too.

Here’s the proof!

Enjoying the cool weather in her princess dress and “leggings” (made by Grandma and Mommy, respectively). She was really styling in her layers for Bible Class that morning.

The Pumpkin Patch

Back on October 17th,we went to a pumpkin patch/corn maze with our small group. Aurelia had so much fun petting the animals, playing with a water thingie that moves rubber ducks back and forth, riding a pony, riding in the cow train, taking a hay ride AND *gasps for air* walking the corn maze. Here are the pics!

PA170893At first she was very nervous about riding the pony, but once she got on,she loved it and wanted to go a second time.

PA170895Mommy and Simon rode, too. PA170904 Whee, get along doagies!PA170897PA170922Here is a “you were there, too” picture of Simon, getting ready to go in the corn maze. Darkness was falling pretty quickly,so we didn’t get any pics in the maze itself. PA170906Aurelia loved working the pump to make the duckies race down the tube to the other side. These were just pumps set up at the end of split PVC pipes that sloped into a big water trough from either end. The kids had a blast with it. This might be a good VBS idea… (That’s Kennedy to her right.) PA170915 All set for the hayride with Carson,Madison, and Kennedy.PA170917Picking out her pumpkin beside the field. The farm had the pumpkins already picked and off to the side. The tour guide said that they didn’t want any littles to have an encounter with a snake. (This pic is cropped weird, because her tummy is totally hanging out above her pants in the whole shot. Her pants are constantly falling off!)PA170920 Oh,yeah, and she had her first taste of cotton candy. She was unsure what to do with it at first. Once I pinched off a piece and had her taste it,she was SOLD.
