A little anecdote…

I just thought of one more funny thing to share about our arriving home. As soon as we came in the door,Aurelia started running around pointing at things and exclaiming “Look,Mommy! It’s our ____.”Then she would go over and pet the object or hug it like a long lost friend. One of the first things that she did this to was the trash can. Really, you missed the trash can?? The mind of a two year old is a mystery…

SMILE TODAY:)

Thanksgiving trip:IN to FL,via TN –whew!!

The well-loved tractor…still going strong after nearly 20 years and 3 little boys have ridden it.
On the big tractor with Grandpa. (Sorry about the sideways photo…)

Enjoying the mild, cool weather with a pumpkin backrest.

As part of the return trip,we spent one night in IN at my parents’house. We were all able to be together for one big steak dinner –grilled outside by yours truly. Yummy. Mom made all the rest of the good stuff –I just stood by the grill. The temperatures were pretty mild. We only wanted jackets during the day,or even just a sweater if we were running around. Grandpa just had to get the tractor out to show Aurelia. Actually, both tractors. That little one has been well-loved by my brothers, and she thought it was pretty cool, too.

Aunt Tabitha and Uncle Steve watch Aurie swinging with Grandpa.

When we drove back to Nashville the next afternoon,I had some great girl-talk time in the car with my sis and sis-in-law,because the guys went back earlier together. Marcus got to go to a Predators game with Steve,so they drove on ahead and took poor Sam home to do homework:(. Anyway,it was wonderful to have 3 1/2 hours of gab time to connect with my sisters. I probably tripled my Heidi-knowledge on that drive! The downside to these moments is that it makes me just that much more sick of being so far away when I get back home to sunny FL. I miss the cold and I miss my family even more!

The following day (Sunday),we set out on the loooooong trek back to FL. Little did we know that I-75 south of Atlanta was at a crawl due to the overload of traffic. We got to really use the new GPS when we decided to get off of the interstate and travel by highway until we got down around Valdosta. Closer to the FL state line, traffic eased up a bit and we were able to make decent time. With all of the hold-ups and a long lunch stop,it took us 11 hours to get home rather than the usual 9 to 10. Whew!

Now I’ve been in hyperdrive this week, working evenings as well as all day to get some lab work finished up and 3 chapters sent off to my professor in the 3 weeks between the Thanksgiving trip return and Christmas. Life around here is pretty nuts, and the apartment and any shopping will just have to wait!!

Thanksgiving trip:MO

Next,we visited friends and family in MO.

In Farmington,we visited some friends. Aurelia discovered that a 6 year-old little girl is about the coolest person in the whole world. (And I got to slip off and see New Moon with Angie –hooray!) Miss T has the best toys and wants to have sleepovers! Actually,Aurelia ended up sleeping with us because she just couldn’t get calmed down on the floor. We were really looking forward to having the bed to ourselves for one night of the trip –maybe next time…
Here is our curly-top in sleepover mode with the Marvelous Miss T! They were so cute together, and Miss T ended up bringing Aurie a special blanket and teddy to tuck her in with her in the next room. So sweet!

Next stop was the farm. This is Aurie’s great-grandparents’home in northern MO —way up at the tippy-top. Marcus and I had not made it up here for my mom’s family gathering since we announced we were engaged. You do the math. It was so nice to see my cousins, again, and their kids who have grown enormously or even been born during that amount of time. One of my cousins once-removed (?) was really pleased to see another little girl in the family with awesome curls like hers. And,here is a family picture –a tradition to take a picture of each of the families each year. It is really cool to look back through them over the past 30 years to see how much we all have grown and our families expanded by marriage and kiddos.

Two curly-headed cousins (once-removed,or something like that…)

This is my mom with her two sisters and parents –an example of the tradition of “cluster photos”that we always take every year. “Oh,get one of so-and-so together, now this group…”You get the idea…

Thanksgiving trip

Now that are more over halfway between Thanksgiving and Christmas,it’s time to finally update with some pictures of our first holiday trip from this season:).

We took a whirlwind 8-day trip from FL to TN,then to MO,then to northern MO,then to IN,then back to TN,then back to FL. On most of those days,we were traveling a minimum of 5 hrs by car. Whew! We were all pretty exhausted when we got back home, but we also were able to visit a lot of our friends and family who we had not seen in months or even years!

We discovered that she is allergic to penicillin! She suddenly developed this horrible rash,so we ended up taking a Sunday morning trip to the walk-in clinic. At least it wasn’t something really serious –or contagious.

Aurie had a good time being crazy with Cousin Peter in TN.
