Addicted to Reversible Clothes

A little while ago, I made a reversible sundress for Aurelia and a second one for a baby shower gift. They were so cute (and practical) that I decided to delve into making some more reversible items. Also, the baby shower was at a cute little boutique/cafe/salon in Ocala, and they had lots of adorable little reversible baby dresses there. I thought – I can do that! So, I traced off one of Aurelia’s dresses and then a tank top to make the patterns for some other items. The dress barely fits her, since I forgot to make seam allowances. :)It will squeeze over her little arms, but then it has to come off over her hips. The top is for cousin Joy, who we will see later this week. The two girls with be matchy-matchy for the 4th.

More Birthday Pictures

Jackson and Aurelia attacked the cake and started sampling icing and pulling cookies off of it about 2 seconds after it hit the table. Her mouth was absolutely stuffed with cookies!! I had been telling her all day that she had to wait to eat them, and now was her chance!! We were hardly able to get a photo of her with the intact cake before they had too many cookies removed.

Yummy Watermelon!!

Already getting Nathan to read her one of her new books. Why is it that people bring gifts even when you say not to? I guess they just can’t resist giving our sweet girl presents. We are loved!!

Jackson and Aurie – partners in crime. This time, inspecting the gifts. This bag had bubbles, buckets and shovels that they were very excited about.

Afternoon at the Beach

Since it was supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year and no chance of rain, we decided to head to St. Augustine in the afternoon instead of the morning, like we usually do. We picked up Grandmaw at the airport around 10:00 and then hung out at home until 2:00, which put us at the beach at around 4:00. It was a nice change to see the tide coming in a to feel the temperatures dropping instead of climbing. Aurelia fell right to sleep on the way home. She was exhausted from digging, running into the ocean (scary!!), and trying to play with any other children that she could find. At one point, she found two other little girls, just a bit older than her. She flopped down and started playing with their buckets and shovels, and then asking for her turn with their ball. The girls’ family got a kick out of how at-home she was playing with their things and then visiting with the grown-ups, too. She has not yet met a stranger – which means we have to watch her very closely. It is so indicative of her innocence that she has no fear of people or places. She always assumes that she will be safe. I hope to keep it that way as long as possible :).

Brief Update – more to come…

Aurelia had her 2-year check up last Friday. She is still just a LittleBit! as we all suspected, but the numbers confirm my observation. She weighs 24lbs and is 34 inches tall. That puts her in the 10 to 25%’ile for the weight and 50 to 75th for height. I guess my back is grateful that she is not at the top of her percentile for weight!!

Grandmaw Wright came last week, and we had a great time. We all went to Jackson’s house on Tuesday to pick blackberries. That was a popular idea until the kids realized that there were thorns. After that, there was a lot of whining – but also a lot of snacking on berries, so it all came out OK. Aurelia probably ate about 2 cups of berries, I estimate. She also was a big fan of the blackberry dumplings that Grandmaw made that evening. They were wonderful – really – you should be e-mailing me and asking how to make this – it is fantastic, and you don’t have to heat up your house with the oven to make it in the middle of the summer – my favorite part. (Was that a run-on, or what?) NOTE: the “w” on grandmaw is intentional. My mom’s initials are MAW, so she want it spelled that way… :)

Thursday night, we had a b-day party. Unfortunately, Tanglewood decided to close the pool, so we didn’t get to swim with our friends that came. Jackson and Alba were the only kiddos, but lots of grown-ups came, too. We grilled outside and then came in out of the heat and humidity to have cake and melon. Yummy! I’ll be posting some photos soon – perhaps when I go home for lunch, today.
