Brrrrrrr!! (and a cute naptime story)

The weather right now is ridiculous! We are experiencing highs in the mid-70′s and lows in the 20′s within the same week here in N Florida. It is about enough to make you feel a little skitzo! I think I brought this on myself by trying to plant a winter garden for the first time this year. My poor peas are killed dead by the cold. I re-seeded,yesterday. Maybe the soil temperature will keep them from germinating too soon and I will get some peas sometime this spring.

One more bit of news:I have had a paper accepted for publication! This will be my first peer-reviewed article –a big deal for anyone in the sciences (or academia period, for that matter). Hooray –this one only took about 4 tries!

Naptime story:
I was talking to one of Aurelia’s teachers this morning. Aurie hates to go down for naps for anyone, anywhere, but we have learned to cope. She has one more little avoidance tactic up her sleeve…Her cot is usually located next to the shelf with the dolls, and she will go grab one, tuck the baby in with her blanket on her cot and then sit next to it. It is almost like she is saying,“Well, someone is already asleep on my cot –guess I’ll get to stay up!”Our clever girl!

More anecdotes about my little helper:
This morning, she accidentally knocked over a tub of marbles that Marcus keeps on top of his computer tower. Her dolly stroller got caught on a cord and pulled the whole thing down. She immediately hollers for me and starts picking up the marbles.

The best one was yesterday:I took a “Mommy day”and she went with me to the eye doctor for my annual appointment, then we stayed home and went to the garden later that afternoon. I had some onion sets, pea and radish seeds to plant. I had to do some hoeing first to clear for the onions, and LittleBit was there trying to get the handle, saying “Help! Help!”Every time I would start something different,“Help!,”and she was right in the middle of it. Such a sweetie. I actually did get her set up handing me the onions to plant, and she did help! (By the way,we shall see if the onions survive. The low last night was 17 degrees!! Maybe they can recover from having their tops wilted…I put lots of compost around them for solar heating…)

Next,we need to bake some cookies!! Maybe running the oven will help us to stay warm.
