Just getting warmed up…

So, here is an apology to the grandparents for being so slow blogging thus far this semester. Marcus has been taking on a lot of extracurricular computer helping stuff, and I’ve been pretty busy with classes and research and trying to keep up with just general life stuff. This semester is off to a busy start, and it is just started! Anyway, that was the excuse; here is the post :).

Aurelia now loves to read books before bed almost to the exclusion of nursing very long. She mostly nurses in the mornings while she and I are getting woke up and in the afternoons when we get home from daycare. Her attention span is getting shorter with nursing time, so perhaps weaning is not too far off. *sniff* – I am going to really miss it!

She has recently learned how to jump, and she tells herself “up and down” when she jumps. Other new things include helping to put laundry into the hampers (dirty or not) and sitting more on her potty seat. I haven’t figured out how to really start moving toward sitting before she fills her diaper, but she has started telling me when she has just done it. Such a cool new step!

On Saturday, we went to the garden co-op so that I could work on winterizing the greenhouse with my volunteer group. Of course, we had 70 degree temperatures that day with a low that night only around 50 (ha ha – winterizing a little late after several nights in the 20’s). There was another little girl, Alex, there who is 11. She and Aurelia had so much fun playing together with a cart and snacking and just generally playing. Unfortunately, at some point, a fire ant got into Aurelia’s pants and bit (stung?) her about 7 times! She started jumping and screaming and pulling at her diaper. I held her but didn’t know what was wrong. I couldn’t see the little rascal until I changed her diaper a little while later and found it still crawling in her pants. Ugh! For those of you outside of the range of fire ants- consider yourself lucky, and you can see what the fuss is all about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_ant . So, she has several blisters on her poor little leg and a couple on her bottom, too. I’m going to have to watch her like a hawk this summer, because they are pretty rampant around our apartment complex.

We will try to remember to take some pictures again, soon. I need to get some pictures of her outside pushing her baby in the stroller and riding her little WiggleRacer that she got from Santa Clause. So, in the meantime, I guess you can just imagine how cute such images would be – and I’ll try to get the real deal posted soon. :)
